Day 1: Arusha – Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp

You will be picked up from Arusha, drive to Londorossi Gate, and begin your trek through the rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp.


Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Camp

  • Elevation: 9,498 ft to 11,500 ft
  • Distance: 8 km / 5 miles
  • Time: 5-6 hours
  • Habitat: Heath


Enjoy scenic fields of savannah and heather on your ascent, with your first views of the Kibo Glacier at Shira 1 Camp.


Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp

  • Elevation: 11,500 ft to 12,500 ft
  • Distance: 7 km / 4 miles
  • Time: 3-4 hours
  • Habitat: Heath


An acclimatization day as you explore the Shira Plateau, with hikes through meadows and Senecio forests.


Day 4: Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Moir Hut

Trek through wild, remote terrain, reaching the Third Cave for the night.


Day 7: Third Cave – School Hut

A short ascent through the alpine desert to School Hut, where you'll rest for your summit attempt.


Day 8: School Hut – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

  • Time: 6-8 hours to summit, 4-6 hours to descent
