LAKE CHALA NATIONAL PARK

Lake Chala, also known as Lake Challa, is a stunning crater lake located on the border between Tanzania and Kenya, approximately 55 kilometers from Moshi and about 130 kilometers from Arusha. Formed around 250,000 years ago, this serene destination offers a unique blend of natural beauty, diverse wildlife, and cultural experiences.

Natural Features

Crater Lake: Lake Chala is a deep crater lake, reaching depths of up to 98 meters, making it one of the deepest inland water bodies in Africa.

Endemic Species: Lake Chala is home to the critically endangered Lake Chala tilapia (Oreochromis hunteri), a species found nowhere else in the world.

Other Wildlife: Visitors may encounter vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, baboons, bushbucks, dik-diks, and monitor lizards in the surrounding forests.
